What kind of main gap are you using? I would bet if you try a simple air
blast type you will see all of 26 inch and more!!
See my simple gap here-

Scroll down to see the refined air blast gap, which has proven to be the
best so far.

Mark -
I checked your coil parameters with the JHCTES program and the program
shows
almost the same spark length as Wintesla. The reason you are not getting
this result is because Tesla coil spark lengths are magic numbers. Only
certain coilers can get this type of output. The spark length depends
not
only on the parameters of the program but also on other conditions.
These
conditions vary with the skill of the builder and also on other
variables
that cannot be incorporated in a TC program.

Hope you people can help here...
Secondary 4"x22" sec with 22 gauge for 38 turns per inch.
Primary 4mm copper tubing, 8mm spacing, inverse conical (max 12 turns
for
tuning range.)
2 x 10kv 23mA OBITS in parallel.
Wintesla and TCCAD say I need .0146 mfd of cap. I'm using 3x22nf in
series x
2 strings in parallel for .014 mfd -at- 15KV
(These are wax filled, Al foil at 5KV each)
The primary is tapped at around turn 6 or 7.
Static gap of 4 28mm copper tubes.
Now the poor result... Wintesla claims I should see 26" streamers. I see
9"
streamers.
The coil also appear to not like any topload!
If I add a 15" x 4" toroid, I cant tune it.
Do I need many more turns on the primary (I'd rather not go down this
path
if possible) or can I re calculate the cap? (I have plenty of .068 mfd
and
.047 mfd polyprop to mess with.)
Is the toroid too big?
I suspect the streamer length could be due to lack of topload and I need
to
go up in primary turns... Or do I?
(For UK helpers, I'm using Colins 4" sec and Bobs conical primary)
Cheers in advance...
