That WinTesla value is based on 8400 volts per inch.
12000/8400=1.43in
1.43in/8gaps=0.175in per gap
It's more of a maximum possible spark gap than a typical, since spark gap
design will affect firing voltage (i.e. pointed tungsten vs. round brass gaps).
