Hello Steve,
I've built a dual 304tl VTTC and run the tubes in short bursts for a few
seconds when the plates glow a real bright orange as I was lucky to get
these tubes real cheap and I don't want to melt a hole in the plate. The
insides of the four plates are a lot brighter because of the concentrated
heat.
I can get 28" out of this system and when I was running with one tube I also
obtained 18" with a bright glowing plate. What size transformer and what size
doubler cap are you using?
I would'nt push these tubes any more when they glow like this. What is your
plate current and grid current.
Regards
Claude.
