TCML,

According to Bill Wysock (who worked on Golka's coil) the record is a
tie at 55' point to point. Bill has photographic evidence of his Model
13M making a 55' strike and was present for Golka's 55' attempt. The
Model 13M is MUCH more efficient than Golka's coil and made the 55' mark
at 120kVA. Little information is available on Golka's coil.

Tesla's longest bolt was 32' feet point to point. Many Tesla historians
(such as Mark Seifer) confirm this figure. Tesla often mused about how
long the bolts were if one were to measure their "circuitous route"
through the air. That's how the >100' myths got started. Margaret Cheney
(Man out of Time) wrote of 132' arcs but failed to mention the
measurement method (obviously Tesla's "circuitous route" method).

Today, the only valid measurement of arc length is point to point.

So the record stands with Bill Wysock's Model 13M backed by photographic
evidence. Wysock, Golka and Leyh are the only individuals to eclipse
Tesla (as far as I know).

Information on the 13M can be found at Bill's site: www.ttr-dot-com

The numbers here are just pulled from memory, so
forgive ;-))

Cheers,

I don't know for sure, but I'm betting no one has
beaten Tesla's record yet.
