IDR Commentary, 'First Light', For Sale #1...

All

Terry has posted a commentary on the IDR system I'm developing at
http://hot-streamer-dot-com/temp/IDR%20Commentary%2001.doc
Commentary includes additional engineering information, details
on primary construction, and comments on JPGS.

Also got my little magnifier running last night (after being quiet for

~ 2 years). You know things are going well when your better half
yells "Hey you're screwing -at-#-at-%%^$-at-%$ with the TV!!!"
in the middle of her favorite show ;^) , and a neon light lights up
about 2 feet from the resonator. Felt good to get a lot of
stuff working again, in about 30 minutes even w/ video taping.
There was some list discussion of looking at the top load
field at the resonator top load with IR sensors, I tried this last
night with my handicam, my IR illuminator bathed the sensor
and precluded seeing anything useful. I will block the optical
path of the illuminator, repeat the test, and report on any
interesting observations.

Getting about 5-6" streamers with beautiful extended corona
at best tune, LOTS of ozone (YEA). Need to photograph
with 400ASA film, corona is very faint and didn't show up at
all in video, but was clearly visible in dark adapted eyesight.
Unit is powered by 9kV, 30mA NST, 4.2nF (2 x 8.2nF)
- Tesla Equidrive with 10 point air blast linear static gap.
I know it's not efficient, but it works, and is fun to work with.
Sparks up to 11" have been generated with this machine,
spark gaps need to be cleaned and dressed (typical problem
with air blast static gap using copper sweat fittings).

Getting ready to wind resonator of IDR assembly, can post
details to hot-streamer later this week. Was up Alex's today,
got a pair of small (3/4" x 1" x 1/8") HD NIB magnets for
ASRSG fixed HV electrode magnetic quenching.

Alex Tajnsek has for sale door knob capacitor "sticks". They
are 70kVAC rated (out of 115kVAC motor operated switches).
There are either 7x10kVAC (2500pF/ea) doorknobs or
12x6kVAC (2650pF/ea) doorknobs in each "stick"; total stick
capacitance is measured at the 180-220pF -at- 70-72kVAC.
Stick has a pin at one end and large aluminum "spade connector"
at other end, disassembly is unscrewing spade connector,
spring and flat washer pops out, and the stick array is literally
in your hands. Individual capacitors have a female shallow
bottom tapped 1/4-20 "hole" at both ends, wire "spring"
connects adjacent capacitors in stick. They are excellent
for Marx Generators, DC filtering (VTTC GLB, HVDC),
HV EMI/RFI bypassing, and can be used on small
(<500VA) Table top sized TC. $30 each, not including S/H
will get a read on these costs tomorrow. Individual capacitors are
also being sold $4.00 ea. for 6kVAC, and $6.00 ea. for 10kVAC
not including S/H. Please contact off list directly
(sccr4us-at-erols-dot-com)
for further information / ordering. Check the price on Newark or
Allied Electronics for a single doorknob at AC ratings listed above
and compare. Quantities are limited, I'll post JPG of stick and
typical
internal capacitors to hot-streamer tomorrow...

Alex also has a very large (125kVA) Variac assembly in excellent
condition for sale, contact directly for additional information..
Other components may be for sale in near future, will keep list
appraised of any parts which may become available...
