RE: nitrogen laser triggered gap
Original poster: "Colin Dancer by way of Terry Fritz <twftesla-at-qwest-dot-net>" <CMD-at-dataconnection-dot-com>
The book I was thinking of was Strong's "Procedures in Experimental
Physics". It covers a wide range of practical lab techniques and if you get
a chance at a hardbound copy is well worth having. All the chapters of the
book are on the CD including diagrams, but they are indexed according to the
chapter title. Try doing a search for "John Strong".
Colin.

I couldn't find any mention of Strong in connection with the CD, but
also couldn't open the particular URL you send and had to go to their
home page. The CD copy I bought sure doesn't have Strong on it, so must
be an offer of a reprint. Since Lindsay is asking $25.95 for his
reprint, that would be a very good price for the combo. Amazon is
selling the CD for $39.95, but without the book.
The complete name of Stong's book is:
"The SCIENTIFIC AMERICAN Book of Projects for
THE
AMATEUR SCIENTIST"
First published in 1960. I hate to admit it, but I was about 34 when I
bought my copy of the original edition when it first came out. No
mention of Tesla coils in it anywhere.
Anyone who doesn't have Strong should buy a copy at once! I have
two
copies. First one was bought at the Caltech book store in 1947, and the
second one for a couple of bucks at a swap meet a few years back. Much
easier to go ahead and pay Lindsay than look around swap meets or garage
sales. In today's dollars it's a lot cheaper than the original was.
