Hi, they are used for remote locations, like the old power dam in
Marlborough has one just to power the water level and flow guage and the
transmitter for the data line..also used for power for things such as line
amplifiers for cable, metering devices, level indicators, fire alarms, and
anything which needs less than 5 or 10 kva..my buddy's hunting camp has a
1kw transformer and all they use it for is lighting and the water pump...his
camp is near a hi-line but miles from the nearest distribution transformer.
