Ryan,    There's two ways to do that.  One way is to simply
rectify the AC first, but that will have basically no effect on
the output, because a typical VTTC is actually a DC coil;
the tube self-rectifies the AC.   Another way is to use a filtered
DC power supply.  THis will give a spark that is much shorter,
but quieter, and the spark will look like a plasma flame, or
a propane torch sort of.  In no cases will the actual output
of the VTTC be DC.  It will always be AC (RF).
