Gary,

It isn't the fluxing agents you need to depend on to melt the enamel,
it's heat.

I don't think you're getting the solder hot enough. If you heat it in
a short piece of crimped copper tubing with a propane torch, I'm sure
you can get it hot enough to melt the enamel and solder the wires
together. If the solder is boiling the enamel HAS to give up
regardless of what type it is!

The Litz I used in the primary of my 833 tube coil is 896 strands,
equivalent to AWG #6 and that's how I soldered that.
