Hi Winston,

Beyond the very good tips given by Kevin, you lightly press the hub onto a
custom mandrel and machine. The mandrel should be run between centers or make a
short stub mandrel machined from a 1/2" round turned down to a hair bigger than
the hub bore. Once the stub mandrel is machined - do not remove it from the
chuck, just install the hub onto it and lightly face off, remove hub/arbor
assembly from the lathe and carefully press or tap out the arbor.

I've had good luck using this method from all sizes of hubs to 12" dia.
railroad wheels.
