Everybody shares their story of finding neon sign transformers. here is mine
from today.

I walked past and out of business place that had people from a neon sign
shop taking out the lights from around the windows. I pointed at the pile of
transformers, they let me in and a few minutes later I had two one year old
15kV x 30mA transformers and some HV wire for $30.

Dishonest employees are great.
