I worked on the installation of this system, from Itaipu to Sao Paulo,
by 1980, doing field work to evaluate what would be the route taken by 
the return current through the ground.
Railroad tracks and telephone lines in the way had to be interrupted
at intervals, as the 1000+ A current would prefer to travel trough them.
