Wow uncool autotransformer action.
I had a feeling that something of that nature was occuring.
I wonder what type of field I really am kicking out with my Primary.
Im guessing the autotransformer effect is creating a non pulsing buildup
voltage, but what kind of field effect is that creating? None till it jumps
a turn of outer primary? Then an instant of Overcoupling?

Id really appreciate an Idea of what a maximum spark length might be?
a 10 amp variac running 120 out to 2x 12000v30ma neons in parralel run
through
a 4 inch secondary with vacum gap and Salt's for caps.

Even a guess would give me some measure of my setups efficiency is before I
modify it.
I can confirm output with a breakout point making 24 inch strikes to a
lightbulb.
A breakout point would actually reduce my actual breakout spark length so...
Whats the 12000v60ma 4inch secondary vacum gap salty record? :)

Cutting it down and moving the strike rail up/out may be the answer.
But Im thinkng I may not want to cut to many turns off...
I still have 6 plus pounds of 26awg magnet wire and
my primary decking will mount an 8inch secondary with minimal modifications.
How many turns would I need to drive a 8inch OD by 40 inch wraping? Is 1to5
to much for a 8 inch coil form? Would I have to increase my 12kv 60ma power
suply just to drop the tuning point inside my 20 turn primary?

Im also thinking of icreasing my topload by adding a aluminum sphere on top
of my torus.
Has anyone played with the ball on top of torus configuration? Torus for
protection factor ball for maximumizing surface area....

Thanks for data/advice
Chris
