Yep, I've done both a Tesla Coil and a Jacobs Ladder with added salts.

I done:

Copper Sulphate: which gives a blue-green colour
Strontium Nitrate: which give bright red...hard on the eyes
Barium Sulphate or Nitrate: gives bright green
Sodium Chloride (table salt): orange burning
Indium Nitrate / Sulphate (HARD TO FIND!): but they both burn neon blue! 
AWESOME!
Potassium Nitrate: burns purplish

...Iron fillings give a shower of golden sparks.
