Hi Duck,

Well, actually not. They are designed for around 75 kV. Remember,
most HV x-ray trannies are mid-point grounded (-75 kV --0V--+75 kV =
150 kV total).

<Without the ends connected, and suspended in air hanging by strings (if you

<breakout, hissing, and other nasty things from the 3 knobs on the ends (a
<X-ray cable with standard Federal ends has 3 conductors, they are at
<slightly different voltages). There's a LONG way from the little hiss of an
<Obit or NST and the wicked hiss of 150VDC, it's amazing :), it's more like a
<screaming whine than a hiss.

Agreed :-) I meant that the cable itself didn't make any hiss. The energized
end (where the 3 conductors come out) did begin to slightly hiss when I
cranked up the voltage to over 15 kV. My former vinyl tube insulation hissed
all along the wire when energized with this much voltage :-( I knew that it
would eventually fail.
