their are 2 main types of copier XMFR's, those with 5 kV/350mA and ones
running 4.5 kV/ 450mA....the odd one has 550 mA at 6.5 kV (these are rare).
I don't actually own any copier XMFR's but I used some over at my friends
house. We seriesed 3 (4.5kV/450 mA XMFR's) together for 14 kV and the sparks
were 15' peak. We were also using 2 expenive 120VAC 30A VARIAC's. We were
inputing 150 volts into the transformers. It worked great. But recently I
have been experimenting with large sized MOT's in series, and so far I am
getting 40% MORE power at 1/4 the price....MOT's can survive double the
input voltage if the core width is big enough and the spacing between the
outer portion of the secondary and the core is .25 to .3". Smaller MOT's
will burn up if you start introducing X2 volting. Old Kenmore (SEARS)
microwave MOT's have extra large spaces between secondary, and core and core
size is fairly large. So far my sears MOT's are holding up just fine. The
actual line input voltage alternates between 230V to 240V. I have my XMFR's
under oil.
