The likely breakdown place is between the outer secondary windings and the
core. Oil will help there. Oil also helps dissapate heat if the
transformer is supplying a lot of power. The turn to turn insulation will
not be a problem. It is much higher in TC secondaries and the turn to turn
insulation holds up fine.
Disclaimer: I never claimed I thought this scheme was a good idea, just an
idea to tinker with. It might be the way to go for a few, but it is not for
the rest, including me. What I am waiting for is for MOs with switching
power supplies to become more common. This will be fertile ground for a
whole new class of TC power supplies and perhaps direct drivers magnifier
TCs. Geek Group - how about getting a source of MO switching power supplies
directly from a manufacturer and making them available to us cheap!
