Winston,

The corona ring at the top of the coil should be electrically connected
to the top of the secondary wire.  there should not be a corona ring
at bottom of secondary..   theres' something wrong with your coil,
maybe the coupling is too tight, did you measure or calc it?  Did
you try raising the secondary?  You
may be simply overpowering the coil to some degree if you have 
a large bang size.  Is there a picture at some website?
