Hi Colin....

a Terry filter is either 2 things ... its a filter system made from
resistors and caps to keep unwanted kick backs of hi voltage pulses from
the coil reaching the hi voltage transformer and the initial power source...

the other Terry filter is when you send in or reply to various Emails on
this list that doesnt apply to Tesla coiling ... ;)

a MOV is a Metal Oxide Varistor... normally they a black , circular,
disc shaped items with 2 leads... they are used to catch hi voltage
surges ( kinda like a miniature lighting rod ) ... once the voltage
builds up to a certian point, the material inside of the MOV will break
down and allow a quick pulse of electricity to break thru a tiny point
of the material and go to ground .... thus saving the other circuitry.
They do have a limited life time due to the limited amount of material
to break thru .....
