Opening the gap won't significantly affect the tuning (except to a minor
degree if it results in longer streamers and secondary capacitance). BUT -
the gap should only be set by sizing it such that with the gap across the
NST and the primary tap disconnected, the gap will _just_ begin to fire.
Opening it further will subject the NST and cap to voltages higher than
they may survive.
