36" is still a good streamer length for that coil - you should be proud.
Thats quite a bit better than most people I know that start out with a 15/60
NST. Usually 24-30" is typical on first runs.
Nows the fun part. You need to play with and tune your tesla coil and
always strive for a longer streamer.
This is where the "real" learning starts as you will directly see what
different types of tuning does to your coil.
Try retapping your primary at different points, play with the coupling
between pri/sec, etc, play with your spark gap
(retune if SRSG), and try to get longer streamers. You should probably be
able to theoretically get 48" streamer.
