I don't know about champeign bottles, but 3 1 gal apple cider jugs will give
about .012uF or .003uF each. Fill them until the level is up to the start
of the inward curve of the neck. With mine, I glued Al foil around them,
and for the connection I sat them on a strip of folded foil, and under one
jug, I fanned out a stranded wire and set the jug on top. I never had a
problem with them at up to 15KV. The only time I had a problem, was when I
set them on a grating. The current density became too great for the foil
and burned the foil off the jugs where it touched the grating. The heat
from the foil caused the voltage to puncture the glass.
