A well built, tuned coil can take full power on. We've NEVER done it any
other way (that's show biz!).

Hey all,
I suppose that is "show biz", but I have to agree with Ralph
for my personal coiling. I always turn on my RSG with the
voltage control variac to the pole pig turned all the way to
the minimum voltage. After the RSG motor has reached full
speed, I then slowly ramp up the voltage to the pole pig till
the coil begins sparking and then fianlly turn it up to the de-
sired power level/ spark length. As a side note, I CAN turn
the voltage control to the pig to a high setting and engage
it at this level after the RSG has reached full speed, but "I"
like Ralph, prefer to slowly ramp up the voltage to the pig.
I only use a 50 amp circuit breaker as the main switch for
my coil system and though many would decry this as ina-
dequate, it has worked great for my purposes.
