Most Brazilian coils are made with stainless steel. Convenient, as
they are cheap, last forever, and taxi drivers use a magnet to hold 
change. Some more recent coins use other metals, and the taxi drivers 
hate them...

I didn't know that stainless steel can be nonmagnetic. Looking better
at my tableware, I see that I  some forks and knifes with the same 
label. The knifes are magnetic. The forks aren't. I thank all for the
curious information.
