Robert,
here are the specs for a good "small" coil, ~9" sparks.
power: 7.5kv-30ma NST (I've also used 6-30 and 9-30, for ~6" and ~12" sparks)
primary cap: 9.6nF (two strings of 12 0.056uF, I would build 3 strings to
experiment with using 1,2, or 3 at a time)
primary coil: flat spiral 9 turns (3 tpi from 5.5" to 11.5") of 1/8" cu tubing
secondary coil: 11" winding length of #28 wire on 3.5" x 12" acrylic tube
secondary top: 2" x 8" torroid from "www.sciencefirst-dot-com"
Peter Lawrence.
ps, if you have the patience then a slightly better (but harder to make, so
make it your second) would be with #32 secondary wire and 15 turns of #10
for the primary.
