Hi all,

I tried as you suggested and put a 3.5uF cap from a motor starter (?) in
series with the dimmer switch and I got a very small (~6KV) arc from the
dimmer. I ran it on short for about a minute and there was *no* heating
whatsoever. I tried it with a much larger 10uF cap, and it seemed to work
much better. I could draw up to 2 inch arcs off it, and on short it got
slightly warm. I will try the 6uF and the 10uF in series just in case it is
a compromise, but thanks for all the help!
