I built mine with an electronic turn counter that I got on eBay for
under $4. They're often available there (isn't everything?). My
winding jig was electric drill powered, variac controlled - crude but
effective. I did 1000 turns at about 4 turns per second. The results
were beautiful. I think even if winding only a single coil, it's
quicker to build a winding jig.
