Make sure the gap at the bottom of your Jacob's Ladder sufficient to start an
arc. A better way to test is to connect an INSULATING handle (plastic pipe,
etc. at least 1ft long to be safe, DO NOT USE PLIERS OR A SCREWDRIVER!!!) with
a nail on the end to one of the secondary HV bushings and draw an arc off of
the case of the NST. Test both bushings this way. If one or both of the
bushings will not start an arc, or makes a very small one, then something is
wrong.

ok i just got my 15 kv with 30 ma transformer made by ACME it is pretty
old. i hooked it up to do a simple jacob's ladder and well nothing
happened. can't figure out what is wrong with it but i saw the guy hook it
up and test it though i can't seem to find out why it isn't working. any
ideas??
