RE: Good Tesla Coil Cap

David, et al,

Due to their wide acceptance and compactness, I am contemplating using one
of these caps, but have a concern. Are these 30 nf caps too large for a
modest 12 kv 360 w with a 3.5x15" secondary? Most tesla calculators
recommend caps smaller than this. What is the effect of too much
capacitance?

CJ,

You're in luck. These are good Tesla coil caps , as they are
designed for very rapid discharge time, high discharge peak
currents, low ESR and very low inductance, all good qualities
for a Tesla coil capacitor. I'm not 100 % sure of the dielectric
material used in these, but I think it does have low losses to
RFs.
