I saw a program about electrical linemen.  They were using insulated cherry
pickers, helicopters, special suits (to keep the field outside), and
potential equalizing wands to work on very HV power lines while the lines
were hot.  The guy on the helicopter was drawing a 3-4 foot arc to the wand.
The wand put the helicopter at the same potential as the line.  The lineman
(on a platform outside the helicopter) could replace the spreader bars in no
time compared to working from the ground. .  One guy on the program had
removed his insulating glove and grabbed something; he lived, but lost both
hands.
There are more HV pros out there than just TC pros.
