I really don't know any thing about MOSFET but I try to learn may
be I'll try a SSTC in the future. Strangely this afternoon before
I read your message I search Digikey, I based my research on
Richie Burnett design; he used IRF740.

I don't know if these one are appropriated for tesla use? 

IRF740-ND        $2.11  400V 10A
IRFB11N50A-ND    $1.73  500V 11A
IRFSL9N60A-ND    $2.28  600V 9.2A

These price are for one.

So your price is good considering that yours are twice the
current rating.
