If your interested in building a MOT DC supply my advice is to pay close 
attention to Gregs Garage site: His MOT DC supply works 100%, and is very 
powerful (and is cheap and fairly easy to make)!! I have tried it myself and 
I get around
14-15KVDC ....my smaller coil, which has been sold to a local University 
used 2 "120VAC rated" MOT's (1.1 KW each in series on a 240 V input) I was 
able to get around 7 KV (AC) for the pair. Then I used a voltage multipling 
setup to get 14-15 KVDC pulsed at 60Hz. I was able to draw 80" sparks off 
the secondary coil with a 85 nF cap!
