Matt,
Assuming that your variacs are each rated at 120 volts in/
0-120/140 volts out, then this setup should give you 0-240/
280 volts at 25 amps output, since the variacs are in series.
If you were to wire them in parallel (this may require an
equalizing choke inductor), then you would have 0-120/140
volts at 50 amps out. You would have to use (4) of these
variacs in a series-parallel configuration to get up to 240/
280 volts with 50 amps.
