I'll try to get some gap pictures on to Terry's hot streamers.
The single layer of horizontal tubes is interesting. Supporting the tubes at
one point means they cannot be rotated as they oxidize. The vertical mounting
means that I can rotate the tubes at least 4 x 90 degrees before they have to
be removed for cleaning.
I "ovalize" the tubes by squeezing them just slightly in a vise. Viewed from
the top
clearly shows that they are not round. It's not quite precision work but I am
careful to keep the long axis of the cylinder parallel to the walls. It will
screw things up if the tubes
aren't equidistant apart as you view the gap top to bottom. Ovalizing the
tubes lets me make easy adjustment of the gaps.
