Which, of course, is what Maxwell advertises in their literature (No PCB's,
we use Castor oil) (and on the labels of some of the capacitors)... As a
practical matter, Castor oil has a dielectric constant of around 4-6,
roughly double what mineral oil has, at the same breakdown voltage, so you
get twice the capacitance in the same size.

Now don't anyone start talking about extracting the oil from castor beans
from that bush growing down in the ditch next to your house. It takes many,
many beans to extract even a little oil (I've tried). No matter how cash
strapped you are, there are easier alternatives than making your own castor
oil. (Waste grease from the local fast food place, for instance)*

*<Terry considers "making your own caster oil" threads off topic these
days... Still tiered out from the barium thing ;-)) - Terry>
