I want to start with a big thank you to everyone on the list and the
tesla web ring for all the hours of work that you put in. It made my
first coil a relative breeze to make!
I got everything finished last saturday night, gave my variac about
1/4 power and was rewarded with a nice solid streamer to a grounded rod
located about 3" from the top load. After powering down and removing
the rod, 1/2 power gave me 12"-14" streamers (around 3 at a time). I
noticed that the streamers appeared to rotate around the top load in an
anti-clockwise (if viewed from above) direction. Very cool!
Coil Specs:
-4.5" secondary wound to 22.5" with 28g wire. Coated with two thick
layers of epoxy.
-Primary is 21 turns of 1/4" soft copper tube. 6.5" diameter at the
first turn.
-Power is supplied by two 15/30 franceformer NSTs.
-Cap is a copy of the Geek group beer bottle cap.
-multiple static gap
Best tune was within 1/4 turn of predicted location according to
qtc.xls. Program predicted ~18.75 turns. I got the best sparks at
around 18.5 turns.
I want to thank everyone once again. This is a fantastic device.
So little time. So many interesting things to learn...
