Erik,
In one of my coils, I used a 6.5" dia x 24" long secondary wound
with #28 wire. The primary was 24 (?) turns of close wound #12
stranded wire. When I powered this with a 9/30 NST, it gave
24" sparks or so (I'd have to check my notes for the exact spark
length). The cap was 0.0147uF. I used a sync rotary gap.
I usually use a somewhat closer spacing between primary and
secondary.
