Quadracs are quite common... Most cheap light dimmers use them (fewer parts
= lower assembly cost)
(Teccor would be a mfr...)

yes, a diac in series with the gate of the Triac is essentially a quadrac.
(or, a NE-2 neon bulb in series with the gate, etc.)
