Re: Saltwater Caps

Hi Adam, All,
Good question! Now that you mention it, the wine
bottle cap I built for the 15kv NST junk box coil was
made of clear glass bottles. This was not by
design--just by chance. Clear bottles were what was
available , so I bought them. It never occurred to me
to worry about the color of the glass. Of course, it
is my early success with this cap that has led me to
build successively bigger and more refined SWCs. My
choice of bottle for the later SWCs is also
coincidental--they are what my favorite brew happens
to come in.
What is brown and green glass colored with? Metalic
salts? Could be! That might explain why some coilers
find success with SWCs and others don't. Perhaps
clear, colorless glass is superior! Surely we have a
chemist on the list who can tell us about pigmented
glass.
Best Regards,
Greg
