8 ohms in the primary will cause a large voltage drop and reduce the primary 
voltage to the pig by quite a bit.  You really want to use an inductive 
ballast to do the primary current control then just an ohm or two of 
resistance to smooth things out a bit.  Just experiment with it and you will 
find what works best.
