Dangerous Method For NST Unpotting

Today I was picking up a new batch of NST's from a fella that works at a
local neon sighn manufacturer I learned a interesting facts about the material
used to pot the NST's.
I know that I have read many posts regarding the removal of the potting
material by baking it in an oven. I was informed that doing that is a very,
VERY bad idea. First of all I was told that the fumes that are released when
that stuff is heated are extremely toxic and, here's the best part, Explosive!
Looks like the solvent methods are the best.
Ready for another piece of bad news? Apparently my state has passed new
regulations regarding Neon signage. When trannies are replaced or upgraded they
need to be replaced with a new "smart" trannie. These new trannies have a built
in GFI, if it senses a "unacceptable current condition" it shuts off the juice.
That is really lame because we all use our NST's for every bit of current we
can drag out of them.
