Aluminum tape would look neater, although masking tape would work just
as well electrically. I mount my torois by two round disks of almost
anything, of such a diameter than when they're installed in the center
of the toroid (or should it really be torus??) they're about an inch
apart. I cover them with aluminum tape for appearance' sake, and mount
a plate in the center with a nut which can be screwed to a bolt in the
top of the coil. The connection is made through the bolt to the nut
plate to the toroid. Works great and you can screw the toroid on and
off with ease, should you so desire. For no particular reason I've used
3/8" threaded rod, but even 1/4" should work tine.
