Hello Tom:
I'm presently using what I call my 10 litre capacitor and am quite happy
with its performance and cost. It has a measured capacity of .02 uF. and
is able to handle my 10/70 multiple OBIT power supply fine.
I used 1 litre PE juice bottles which are 4 inches square and about 9
inches tall to the point where the sides start to taper in towards the
screw on lids. Nine of them fit perfectly into an old plastic milk
crate (the kind we old guys keep our LP records in) which I have lined
with poly sheeting.
For connections I cut two pieces of single sided G-10 circuit board and
placed one in the bottom of the crate directly under the bottles and the
second rests on the bottle caps and supports/connects the threaded rods
hanging down into the bottles. I needed less than a litre of brine for
the "bath" surrounding the bottles due to the nice fit they have in the
milk crate.
I float about a 1/4 inch of vegetable oil on top of the brine to act
as an extra insulation barrier to stop any corrona that might form.
I've found that the PE bottles are much better than the glass bottles
that I used in my first brine cap. Being square, their surface area
is greater than a similar sized round bottle and hence more capacity.
