I have no direct knowledge of vegetable oil or shortening but I would fear
that it may contain moisture, and that it may go rancid with time.

I highly recommend the use of melted Vaseline jelly for repotting an NST.
The nice thing is that it will never leak and you don't need a perfectly
liquid-tight container.

I have unpotted a NST and was wondering if I could use vegetable oil in the
repoting process. OR can I use shortening by melting it down and pouring it
in then letting it cool again. Will either of these work well for an
unpotted 12/60 now 12/200 NST.
thanks
