Hmmm......not anealled yet?
Well one thing that you must make sure is that the ball bearing must be
heated
right through. It took me about 5-6 minutes of direct heat using a propane
torch
to heat the ball to cherry red. I then continued to apply heat for another
2-3 minutes
and then let the ball cool off. Please keep in mind that these were 3/4" in
diam
and anything larger would surely take much longer...how much longer is a
matter
of trial and error.....but isn't that what make a hobby interesting?
Yes, the balls did tend to exhibit a bit of flaking but I had no problems
drilling a hole
into the center of the ball using standard high speed steel drill bits. I
used a lathe to
hold the ball while I drilled it.
