No! No! No! - Jpeg is a lossy format only intended for photographic
images, and is very ineffective at compressing line-art type images
without loss of quality. GIF is a much more appropriate format for
this type of material. Apart from being lossless, Compression will be
hugely better. 
The web would be a much faster place if everyone understood this
little snippet of info...!
