I have built several acrylic vacuum chambers using cast acrylic
tube and acrylic plate. the tube was 8-10"dia x 1/4"thk wall with 1"the
end caps.... one is grooved with and cemented the other is grooved and
holes drilled in 4 corners for all thread bolt to clamp the whole thing
together.... larger tube is difficult to get and very expensive. however I
have heated flat sheet and "drape formed" to get a cylinder and than
used a self polymerizing monomer-polymer cement to bond the joint and
bottom. then back to the machining of the grooves for your o-ring type
seal. polycarbonate would be the way to go but tube over 2-3 inches is
rare and the cement bond is not as strong.also forming is much more
involved do to predrying to avoid bubbles ect.
to determine you end cap thickness use t=d/16 (thk of sheet,d=dia).
