Barry, all,

Without doing the calcs, I would guess that at 10kV or so, the cap
would be able to fire barely once per AC mains half cycle at 2kW.
Maybe not even once per half cycle.  It must have been an efficient
low break-rate system, to give 7 foot arcs at 2kW.
