bart, reinhard: The PE you have that is thin and clear may be PET
poyethylene terephthalate or a related compound pbt, ptmt. used in
making packaging, bottles, ect liquior bottles are PETG.
yellow orange sooty is pet pe will be yellow blue center in theory
pe should have a smell of paraffin whereas pet will be "slightly aromatic"
whatever that is.
a quik test for pe is the float test in water. there are only 3 common
unfoamed materials that float;PE,PP,and the rare polymethyl pentene--
the last one by the way has most of the advatages of pe with a much
higher operating temp-- ..so if it floats it's usually pe. the k factors
are
2.5 or higher for all which dosn't jive.
