Re: Military surplus TC

"What it is is a wooden case containing a small tube driven coil in a
nice metal and plexi cabinet, several 3" dia. spherical metal terminals,
a
rather larger and sorta egg shaped metal 'ball', an electroscope, a
bunch
plexi rods with various metal ends, and a large assortment of supports,
cloth, silk thread, pith balls, etc. Just about everything you'd need to
demonstrate high-voltage and/or static electricity.'

Sounds like a simple "RF HV supply", of the type which were used for
many years to generate 10 to 30 kV at a milliamp or less. Tube might
well be a 6V6(GT) or something similar. If it's not included, you need
a source of DC to run the plate of the tube and a source of AC or DC
(almost certainly 6.3 volts) to heat the cathode. I have a simple RF HV
supply here which I built at least 45 years ago. It uses a 50L6GT
oscillator tube, a 35Z5GT rectifier, and a 1B3GT HV rectifier. Runs
directly off the AC line, and puts out around 8 kV at about a mil.
